Winter skin trends

A/W this year has been all about fresh faces and ‘no makeup’ makeup. Flawless skin has taken centre stage and looks set to continue as a trend right through into S/S14.

The fall catwalks earlier in the year saw so many minimalist makeup looks with bright, glowing and dewy bases, strong brows and barely there mascara. There were also a few shows where matte skin was the choice and subtle sepia toned contouring, but again very much a natural look.

For the overall look to focus on there not actually being much makeup there, or even to be able to fake that, taking care of your skin is number one on the priority list. As we step into the colder months, the environment can be much harsher on us and we really need to up the ante with our skincare regime in order to reap the benefits when warmer temperatures are upon us again.

Having an at home routine that suits your skin type is a must, and that should really include a good cleanser and moisturiser at a very minimum. Clarins have some fantastic cleansers, like the Cleansing Milk which is great for a dry skin, or the Gentle Foaming Cleanser for combination/oily skin. I’m also a huge fan of the Bioderma water based cleanser, which I actually think is great for all skin types. There are so many amazing moisturising products on the market too, and it is far easier nowadays to find something for all skin types and budgets. If you do nothing else this winter, make sure you invest in a good moisturiser…and that doesn’t just apply to those with dry skin! It is a common misconception that those with oily skin don’t need to moisturise…wrong. You absolutely do, but just need to ensure you select the right product for you. I highly recommend Clarins Ultra Matte Rebalancing Lotion…having oily skin myself means I can vouch for the quality of this product and the results it produces.

It’s good to give your skin that little extra treatment every so often too though, and especially during the winter months. Facials are perfect for this as they not only allow you a little ‘me’ time and an excuse for a good pamper, but also actually work wonders for your skin. Spa by Kasia actually offer Skin Specific Facials that allow you 55 minutes of relaxing treatment with fantastic Elemis products. Choose from the Fruit Active Glow which provides a powerful skin recharge for dull and lifeless complexions, the Exotic Moisture Dew for a super moisturising boost, or the Herbal Lavender Repair Facial to heal and repair oily, problem prone and congested skin.

And when you have achieved that perfect skin and are ready to rock your barely there look, why not add a gorgeous berry shade lip or soft mauve blush to add a winter glow and that little extra something to your look.
